In 2006, Massachusetts passed health care reform that implemented a number of policies that are now being mirrored in the Obama health reform plan. The president has repeatedly claimed that his plan will lower health care costs but not decrease health care quality. This visualization looks at how the Massachusetts plan has panned out in terms of cost and wait times. 2. like if the wait time wasn’t long enough. Same reason why my father died from Malpractice. They wouldn’t send him a Neurologist without proof of Insurance. Finally after being threatened forcefully they began working on him 3 days later and refused to Transport him to a better Hospital. The Hospital didn’t have enough Surgeons and Beds so he died from Staff infection he got while being in the Hospital those fuckers had the nerve to send a 55 dollar bill for u guessed it? Unsanitary bandages.

  3. This Bill is a deception of the Illuminati Elite, that is all I’m gonna say. If you want more email me and I’ll discuss why this Bill will eventually lead us into a New World Order.

  5. Hey realdck I didn’t see any wiki sources cited there. Just professional ones usually referenced at the end of that wonderful video. That sadly he had to dumb down for people like you. Oh by the way, I know the author, good friend, married, owns his own home, pays taxes, oh and health insurance too!

  6. Student/piggish idealistic thinking.. Wait until you pay for your own healthcare and that of a family before you try to formulate an opinion. Your Wikipedia research is reckless.

  7. IF the number of doctors are increased…

  8. Wrong, you can always get health care no matter what, even if you don’t have the money. You’ll be in a ton of debt for the rest of your life but at least you won’t die.

  9. The study where you get this data from admits that the reason Boston has long wait times is because they JUST ADOPTED (2006) universal coverage, not that UC causes large wait times. As the number of doctors are increased, these wait times will return to the 2004 levels (from the study). UC doesn’t necessitate long wait times, just ask: Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, France, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Chile…

  10. of course you can die in Georgia without being covered. Pre existing conditions is a bitch.

  11. And section 501 imposes a tax penalty if you haven’t purchased health insurance. Eventually the IRS can send you to jail for 5 years if you don’t pay. Not so appealing to me.

  12. I lived in Australia which has gov run healthcare and generally just make an appointment whenever I want it – within an hour if I wanted it. American’s are so scared of everything it’s mind boggling. I’m not saying the transition will be easy but it will work!

  13. and wat is the truth”comrade”?

    Comment by TheBumbzo — January 4, 2010 @ 12:20 pm

  14. This is not true. Here in Massachusetts I can see my doctor the same day if I am sick.

  15. @Hopanio…
Actually, the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan area is more populous than the Greater Boston area.

  17. An interesting video….I don’t support universal health care, but I do note the drastic differences in two things he points out. Massachusetts is part of the Megalopolis, and has an immense population. As well, it is in the North, where prices are generally higher. Atlanta is a city, true, but it is also down in the south. I would like to see this adjusted, if not by wait time, then by price.

  18. The number of people using the government plan then will be nothing compared to how many people will be added after health-care reform. That is when the waiting lines will be out of control.

  19. OK im from massachusetts and have been covered by the state plan when my dad lost his job for about a year. Never had to wait… same doctor… didnt notice anything different. I dont think you understand… SAFETY NET or NO SAFETY NET, you chose.

  21. I can see why nobody wants this bill.

  22. I was injured and went to the Dr. on a SATURDAY (same day as the injury).
I was dissatisfied and had his office give me a referral to the specialist (Orthapaedist) the next day at 1:30 in the afternoon. 2 Dr appointments in less than 5 days and x-rays on top of that with no wait longer than 15 minutes. live in Georgia, USA…way out in the “sticks” not in a metropolitan area…so I can say I am quite pleased with my healthcare…WHICH I PAY FOR!
